(Movie) The Aviator

This one I watched from home.

Martin Scorsese (Yes, I had to look up how to spell that last name) seems to be untouchable as a director. He has made hit after hit and the academy just loves him. I also happen to like his movies although I do not find them as groundbreaking as other movies. Martin has literally created textbook examples of film techniques such as lighting, camera work, and editing. I know this because I did take a few film courses before switching my major...everyone has regrets.

The Aviator gives you a glimpse into the life of Howard Hughes and how he was a trailblazer in the truest form. He is the reason why airlines are a safe means of transportation today. Also, he pushed the aerospace industry like never before with the H-4 Hercules or as some people like to call it the "Spruce Goose".

Back to the movie. Young Leonardo DiCaprio really sells this character. Howard Hughes was known to have suffered from OCD and DiCaprio portrays it in a somewhat subtle way. DiCaprio is the most redeeming reason for seeing this movie along with Cate Blanchett playing Audrey Hepburn. The two of them have a excellent chemistry and their relationship in the film is the foundation of this movie and the foundation of Howard Hughes as a character. Hughes did have great triumphs on a large scale but, he didn't have a grasp on his social life; DiCaprio shows this as each time there is an issue related to airplanes he excels in finding the answer but, on social ques, he bumbles in finding a solution.

The CG was, and still is, impressive. Scorsese managed to use very little CG and that decision is what helps this film remain timeless. I wouldn't say that it is not noticeable, because, it definitely is, but it at least does not subtract from the movie.

GOOD MOVIE ALERT!
